See how to change the oil on a Yamaha Raider in this video from Partzilla.com.

Oil changes are simple, right? Drain the oil, change the filter, fill it up. But a Yamaha Raider oil change has a few extra wrinkles.

We’ll start by warming up the engine and opening the oil fill located under the saddle. Then John will show you the three drain bolt locations on the Yamaha Raider, and getting to them is a bit tricky.

They’re all 17mm drain bolts, but because of the tight quarters, you’ll need to thin out the outside of a 17mm wrench to get it to fit around two of the bolts. Some people will just drain at the oil tank, but that’s not enough to get all of the oil out of the machine.

With the oil drained, we’ll get the drain bolts back in place. The oil tank bolt takes 31 foot-pounds of torque and the other two drain bolts take 23 foot-pounds.

With the drain bolts back in place, we’ll change the oil filter. When you replace it, use a 65mm filter wrench and torque to 12-foot pounds.

The oil capacity of a 2008 Yamaha Raider is about 5.5 quarts, but there is a process to getting the oil into the engine. First, add 2.5 quarts and then close the oil fill and crank the engine and rev it a couple of times to get oil moving into the system. Then turn the engine off, open the fill, and add the other three quarts.

You should change the oil on your Yamaha Raider once a year or every 4000 miles.
