Pacita Abad: Masks and Spirits at SILVERLENS | Virtual Walkthrough

Описание к видео Pacita Abad: Masks and Spirits at SILVERLENS | Virtual Walkthrough

Last 30 October 2020, SILVERLENS' co-director, Isa Lorenzo was joined by contemporary artist, Pio Abad for a virtual walkthrough of the gallery's Art Basel OVR:20c presentation, 'Pacita Abad: Masks and Spirits'. The two gathered over Zoom – Lorenzo at the gallery site in Manila, while Abad at his home in London – to discuss the four trapunto paintings featured in SILVERLENS' Viewing Room.

These large-scale works, ranging from 1982 through 1994, were culled from the late artist's celebrated series, Masks and Spirits. Inspired by her extensive travels across remote regions, Abad weaved countless diverse experiences and narratives into her art, creating over fifty of these hand-stitched, colourfully embellished trapunto paintings in her lifetime.

In conjunction with OVR:20c, these pieces have been installed within the gallery's space for a solo exhibition that lifts its title from the late artist's lauded series; this show will run until 21 November 2020. Despite previously exhibiting Abad’s pieces in Art Basel Hong Kong and Frieze London, this presentation marks the first time her works have been displayed in SILVERLENS.

We invite you to view this recording of the event to learn about each of the four pieces featured, as well as the artist behind them – her itinerant life, experimental practice, and vibrant legacy.
