Twin Cities Railfanning P1 - BNSF, CPKC, Union Pacific & TC&W around Dayton's Bluff

On our last day in Minnesota, Wednesday March 13th, 2024, we departed the Iron Range before sunrise and made our way towards the Twin Cities, where we'd get plenty of rail action in before our flight home in the evening. Several shortline railroads, as well as Canadian Pacific, BNSF and Union Pacific carry freight around Minneapolis and Saint Paul, offering some solid railfanning during the day.

Starting out the day in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood of Saint Paul, we swing by CPKC's Pigs Eye Yard, where we rostered a few engines as well as catching a yard move with a trio of ECO rebuilds for power. Along with Pig's Eye Yad is UP Hoffman Avenue Yard as well as BNSF Dayton's Bluff Yard. We catch a few UP yard moves working with some sweet power before heading out.

After messing around the yards, we spent a good portion of our day hanging out at Mounds Park, also located in Dayton's Bluff. This location provides a solid overlook of the city, Minnesota's state capitol, the Mississippi River and the very busy interlocking at Division Street, which numerous trains belonging to a few different railroads pass through, including traffic off the CPKC Merriam Park Subdivision and BNSF Saint Paul Subdivision. We would catch a few CPKC trains as well as a UP train, the Twin Cities & Western's Saint Paul Turn and even a pair of Santa Fe Warbonnet B40-8Ws. More video coming soon, in the meantime, enjoy!
