Despite the name, forward head posture, it is actually the neck that is forward whilst the head is back and down in relation to the neck. It's cause is a narrowing of your attention into your computer screen/smartphone/book etc. you physically go where your attention goes.
It's made worse by the muscles of the neck tightening (like in the startle reflex) as a reaction to stress causing your head to be pulled back and down. In other words, it's more of a mental issue than a physical issue and resolved by widening your awareness of the space around you, especially above and behind.

Are you looking to improve your posture, health and performance in your working day?

Do you spend far too long sat at a computer leading to a whole host of aches and pains? Does the stress of work leave you feeling burnt out? Tried osteopathy, chiropractic and physio with limited results? The Alexander Technique is a radical yet straight forward method for undoing harmful patterns of habitual physical and mental tension that cause a wide range of common problems. By addressing the cause of your problems it is possible to achieve long-term results, as opposed to the temporary relief that may be gained from focusing on your symptoms.
