Rainger FX: Break Box // Distortion, Sustainer, Scratch Effect Generator

The Rainger FX Break Box combines massive distortion with slow-fade-in chorus that gives extra lift and motion to any held note or chord. This distortion is derived from Rainger’s long retired El Distorto pedal, combined with the back end of a Tone Bender style circuit originally designed for Rainger’s collaboration with Colorsound. The chorus fades in automatically after one second, offering enhanced sustain and motion that pushes the sound forward as the notes fade. The Break Box also features an entirely unique “scratch pad” for triggering record scratch effects with your guitar, pushing the fun and creativity quotient into the stratosphere in typical Rainger FX fashion. In this demo, we employ the Break Box on baritone guitar and bass VI in a live rock band context, then we examine the basic functions to give you a glimpse of what’s possible with this singular distortion pedal.
