CHAOS and Deja Vu:
When trains headed to FAIL on the S&C.
3 Days at Carlisle Station
22 - 24 July 24

Three similar days or so I expected.

Plenty of Class 70s on each day.

On the Monday the day passed pretty much as I;d expected.
On the Tuesday Things were much different.
The Engineers train to Crewe fails before its hardly left the Carlisle area delaying freight and passenger trains on the Settle & Carlisle line by up to 100 minutes. It failed at Howe & Co's Sidings and had to be towed back to Carlilse Yard. It would run later via the WCML. Meanwhile, once the line was clear (and the Logs were on their way) the 1336 to Leeds ran non stop to Skipton followed by the 1450 some 50 minutes late - with your's truly aboard. I'm an On Train Guide for the Friends of the Settle Carlisle Line and was with a party heading to Settle. Thus I saw trains passing through the station but was committed to my task of entertaining the group.

The following day another freight almost causes similar chaos. The Dewsbury aggregates train was struggling as it approached Ais Gill sumit on the S&C. The driver managed to revoer it. However the 1336 to Leeds ws delayed by half an hour, the Engineer's train was committed to the S&C route but Colas rescheduled their Log train to run over the WCML.
