The Caucasus Through Time Network had the pleasure to host its first seminar dedicated to the Palaeolithic of the Caucasus. In this seminar we focused on the research projects being carried out by three Early Career Researchers; Jayson P. Gill, Dominik Rogall and Dr Yagub Mammadov, related to the Palaeolithic of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Southern Caucasus, being an area of earliest human occupation in Eurasia, plays a key role in detangling main question related to early human history and behaviour such as hominin dispersal, the relationship of Neanderthals to anatomically modern humans, the demise of Neanderthals, as well as debates surrounding behavioural ‘modernity’. In this seminar we thereby aim to showcase and create healthy discussions around the fascinating work of our speakers.
