Sweet Conchas Pan Dulce - Mexican Sweet Bread with the Perfect Sugar Topping

Conchas are a traditional Mexican pastry known for their distinctive shell shape. They consist of two parts: a soft, bready base layer and a sugar shell pattern on top. Conchas are one of the most popular pastries found in Mexican panaderias (bakeries) across the country. These pastries can also be found in grocery stores throughout the United States, depending on your location.

Ingredients:
To activate the yeast mix the following ingredients:
2 Tbsp Flour
1 Tbsp Sugar
2 1/2 Tsp Active Yeast
1/2 Cup Warm Milk

3 1/2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour
1 Tsp Cinnamon
1 Tsp Ground Anise
1/2 Tsp Salt
1/2 Cup Sugar
3 Large Eggs
1 Tsp Vanilla
1/2 Cup Softened/Melted Butter

Vegetable Shortening for the bowl and the cookie sheets

Topping
1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
1 Cup Confectioner Sugar
3/4 Cup Vegetable Shortening
1 Tsp Vanilla
Food Coloring
1 Tbsp Cocoa Powder for the Chocolate topping
