Suresh Ambiswany has been well known among all many malayalis for over 60 years and to showcase how they make traditional typical thrissur style Onam dishes, I journeyed to Thrissur and shot an entire series just for you. How to make Kurukku Kalan & Sadya Koottu Curry

Making of Kurukku Kalan

Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Grated coconut - 2 Cups
green chillies - 3 nos
Yam / chena( chopped ) - 1 Cup
Raw Plantian( Nentra Kaya ) - 1 nos
Water - 1 Cup
Turmeric powder - 1/2 - 3/4 tsp
Pepper powder - 1 tsp (Heaped )
Salt ( according to taste )
Ghee - 11/2 tsp
Curd - 1ltr
Rice flour - 1 tsp (Heaped ) + WATER
Ghee - 11/2 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Curry Leaves
Fenugreek powder - 1/4 tsp

Making of Sadya Koottu Curry

Channa dal ( Kadala Parippu ) - 1/2 Cup ( Soaked for 5 to 6 hrs)
Ash gourd (Kumbalanga)- 250 gms
Carrot - 1 nos
Pumpkin (Mathan)- 150 gms
Yam / chena - 250gms
Grated coconut - 11/2 Cups
Cumin Seeds - 3/4 tsp
Coconut oil - 2 - 4 tbs
Coconut ( Grated ) - 1 Cup
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
chilli powder(Heaped ) - 2 tsp
Salt ( according to taste )
Jaggery( Grated ) - 1/2 Cup
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
