Four Versions of the 1010 WINS Sounder

Описание к видео Four Versions of the 1010 WINS Sounder

These are my four favorite versions of the awesome 1010 WINS sounders, one of my top favorite news themes. They have used the same theme of xylophones and trumpets since about 1974. From 1974-2010, the sounder would play and then fade into the background as the newsreader read the headlines. The first three sounders in this video were originally composed in the early to mid 90s by an unknown composer. The first version was the top of the hour sounder. It has a six-note horn intro that leads the xylophone and trumpet fanfare. The second version was the 20 minutes after the hour sounder. It features a distinctive and powerful news flash noise that leads into the xylophone and trumpet fanfare. The third version is the 40 minutes after the hour sounder. This is the one that sounds the closest to 1010 WINS' original 1970s theme. It has piano lead in which sounds similar to the guitar lead in the 1970s theme. Like the other two sounders, the piano leads in the xylophone and trumpet fanfare. They were used up until 2010, when they were replaced a great new sounder package, composed by Foster Kent, as apart of 1010 WINS' move to modernize its image. They modernized their image by playing transitioning music (MotionMixes, created by Foster Kent) underneath the reading of each headline, which departs from the old 1010 WINS way of playing the sounder and then having it fade in the background as the newsreader read the headlines. The fourth and final sounder is the current top of the hour theme, which stays true to the top of the hour theme they have used since the early to mid 90s. It came along with some other sounders that sounded modernistic, but they were quickly replaced, due to them being so different from 1010 WINS' On Air Image. The third sounder was brought back at its old time slot (40 minutes after the hour). The news flash noise of the old 20 minutes after the hour sounder was brought back, but the xylophone and trumpet fanfare comes from Foster Kent's package. The Foster Kent Top of the Hour theme (fourth in this video) is still used by the station. 1010 WINS is one of my favorite radio stations to listen to and the sounders are one of the key reasons why I love it. I would love to get these four sounders without the voiceovers and I would love to know who composed the first three sounders and when those first three sounders were composed.
