In this chapter, the workflow for converting IFC data from a VIM model into a trench for use in Trimble EarthWorks or SiteWorks is demonstrated. This process is particularly useful for construction in the field, especially when dealing with conduit banks that have various elevation changes between vaults or structures, unlike gravity-based sewers. The initial step involves modeling the utility run using the Trimble utility module. From this module, a trench is created by applying a trench template, which generates a surface. This surface, along with the utility, can then be exported to SiteWorks or EarthWorks. The following videos will provide a demonstration of this process.
