Delinquent Property Tax Enforcement 101: A Critical Neighborhood Stabilization Tool

Описание к видео Delinquent Property Tax Enforcement 101: A Critical Neighborhood Stabilization Tool

Property taxes fund schools, roads, community safety, and other vital public services. However, the processes that incentivize property tax payment must minimize harm to homeowners and neighborhoods with a large number of tax-delinquent and vacant properties.

Many property tax enforcement systems trap low-income homeowners, neighborhood residents, and deteriorating properties in high-vacancy neighborhoods in legal limbo. But property tax enforcement systems can and should be equitable—protecting homeowners and promoting a more efficient and effective path to transition tax-delinquent vacant properties to new, more responsible owners.

This session will explore key elements of equitable, efficient, and effective delinquent property tax enforcement systems and offer a primer on how to determine whether reform is needed in your community. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the connection between property tax enforcement, systemic vacancy, and neighborhood stabilization; and learn best practices in property tax system reform.
