The dead of winter is upon the heart of coal country in Eastern Pennsylvania. But the ice cold weather and foot of snow doesn’t stop the Reading and Northern railroad from doing what they do best; continuing the tradition of big steam railroading. For their second year, the RBMN hosted a round trip excursion for patrons from Reading Outer Station, to the beautiful and bustling tourist town of Jim Thorpe. Pulling the classy train is the RBMN’s own ex-Reading T-1 2102, one of the largest operating steam locomotives East of the Mississippi river. There’s no doubt that this engineering marvel draws crowds from all over, and on this cold day with everyone being indoors from the past weeks of sub-zero temperatures, this was no exception. Let’s follow the 2102 as she charges the lines of predecessor railroads, on her route to Mauch Chunck, enjoy!
