The life journey and career making of Prof. Jagdish Sheth | Accidental Scholar | AIM Sheth | Part 1

American dreams of Professor Jagdish Sheth, a recipient of Padma Bhushan award 2020, came true in 1961 when he flew from India to America in 1961. He takes us down in a sweet memory lane, describing his journey like how he went to Pittsburgh to complete a fellowship and got paid for one year MBA.

Inspired by Prof. Bernard Bass, he started his journey of a Ph.D. in Marketing and Psychology as he was admired by the psychology of customers. Over his 5 decades of academic career, he observed how the world is following the Easternization of the world over westernization.

His explanation about his journey so far...

Surprisingly quite different from what I expected. I came by a cruise line. I flew out of Bombay to Rome. I had never flown in my life. Raising a family in a foreign country is not that easy, especially when you believe in your cultural values.

But if you take a human being, mentor, Polish, nurture, educate then value-added is infinite in the discipline of marketing, scholarship, investments. And that's how the idea came to start the 'Seth Foundation' in India.

We need a scholarship in marketing and research in marketing. So we started an Association called the Academy of Indian Marketing. A nation is admired through its people. The idea of contributing back to society, especially to scholars gave him an idea to start "AIM Sheth Foundation"

And every evening, my wife and I both comment on how blessed we are after 59 years of marriage. Now next year will be 60 years anniversary. And both of us think about where we were and where we are today.
