THREE TIPS TO ARM BALANCES
1- Establish a strong foundation by pressing the ground actively with ‘intelligent’, awake hands. Even out the pressure across the fingers, knuckles, and rim of the palm. Imagine that the center of the palm subtly sucks upwards in an counter action of redirection (bandha). Position your spine perfectly between this clear upper body foundation.
2- Become weighted and then soar away from the ground, do this by enjoying the weight of your body, by ‘going with’, rather than resisting, the downward force of gravity. As you allow yourself sink and drop downwards the earth, experience an unexpected lightness come to you. This lightness comes as a result of an acceptance of weight, a giving over of your body to the ground. There you will find a surprising upward counter action, a buoyancy that lifts you away from the earth effortlessly.
3- In your arm balances think of your arms as like your legs when you are standing, as trustworthy pillars of strength that support you unstintingly. But also they are secretly finely tuned to the earth so as to help you with coordination and balance.
