Nickel Plate Road 765: Indiana Fall Colors Steam Train 2023 (4K)

To kick off the Fall Colors Train season, I made my way back to the Midwest on Columbus Day Weekend. The Nickel Plate Road #765 would lead the Indiana Fall Colors Train, which was another Indiana Rail Experience event operated on the Indiana Northeastern Railroad. On October 7th & 8th, 765 lead an all day excursion between Pleasant Lake Indiana to Hillsdale Michigan & return, leading both way's. While the Fall Colors were not the best, they were still there in many locations. With colder temperatures, 765 out on a fantastic show. Lots of great Stack Talk, and one of the locations we see the fastest I have seen 765 operate on the Indiana Northeastern! For this excursions, I chased with ‪@GTRailFanProductions‬ BLE866 & ‪@DroppedSignal‬ while I ran into many people trackside!

The Nickel Plate Road 765 is a 2-8-4 Berkshire Type Locomotive, built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944. It operated for the Railroad until 1958. It was also the last Steam Locomotive Steamed up on the Nickel Plate. After it's retirement it was renumbered 767 and put on Display in Lawton's Park, as the City of Fort Wayne wanted the 767. However 767 was in bad condition and the Nickel Plate Road did not want to scrap 765 as it was a favorite. In 1974 it was pulled out of Lawton Park, and was restored to Operation in 1979 and has operated excursions since all over the Midwest & the North Eastern US and even the South! In 2022 Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society celebrated it's 50th Anniversary, and debuted the Indiana Rail Experience with a series of excursions in 2022. The 2023 season expanded upon this, and I look forward to what the future will hold!

As I upload this, I was originally expecting to be chasing the Pere Marquette 1225 on this weekends Fall Colors train from Owosso to Alma. Unfortunately there is to much uncertainty for me to commit right now to said excursion. So if all goes well I will be chasing the New York & Lake Erie for the first time during the fall.
