Mohammed Euus was born in Thakurgaon in 1954. After graduating in Fine Art from the University of Dhaka in 1978, Mohammad Eunus went on to study in Japan at Tama University and maintains that his training here “sharpened his sensibilities and awakened him to the possibilities of new experimentations in line, space and colour”. His style has undergone many changes from academic to figurative to the purely abstract work. His cityscapes are sensitive and haunting portrayals of a decaying time and their geometric and staggered composition makes them deeply poignant. His canvas voices an existential dilemma with an underpinning of hope.

Eunus’ work has been exhibited widely. He has received many awards and citations notable among which are the Grand Prize, Kodo Art Show, Tokyo (1989), Honourable Mention in the 13th National Art Exhibition (1998), the Arab Bangladesh Bank Award in the 11th National Art Exhibition (1994), 3rd Prize in the First Islamic Biennale in Tehran (2001), Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award in the 16th National Art Exhibition, Dhaka (2004) and the Emar International Art Symposium Award, UAE (2005). An arts organiser, educator, and prolific painter, Eunus is also a member of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka.
