Padma Shri Devarapalli Prakash Rao, son of a World War II veteran, being from a non financially stable background, had to work since he was 7 years old, but never let it come in his way of becoming an achiever. The 58-year old tea seller now provides education and food to underprivileged kids and even goes an extra mile to enroll the rest who graduate from his school to a proper government school.
He founded a school " Asha O Ashwana" in Cuttack which provides education from nursery to standard 3.
Apart from this, he also battled through a lower torso paralysis for 4 decades and was saved by receiving 1 unit of blood, which inspired him contribute blood to patients as well. Thus, since 1978, he has donated blood over 200 times and platelets 17 times for which he holds the highest record of donating blood in Asia. Adding to feathers to his hat of social work, he has decided to donate his skeleton after death, to the anatomy section of the SCB Medical college, for the future students. Born on 11 November 1958 in the silver city of India, Padma Shri Devarapalli Prakash Rao was a son of a World War II veteran who started working since the age of 7. Besides being a tea seller, he opened a school for the underprivileged and has provided education to hundreds of students.
