Stock Ghyll Force | Waterfall walk Ambleside in the Lake District

A short walk from Ambleside in the Lake District is the waterfall called Stock Ghyll Force. It’s a great place to visit, especially after heavy rain.

From the town centre follow the road, Stock Ghyll Lane, behind the Salutation Hotel until a sign points you left and off the road. This is where our video starts.

Our path ran alongside the river and within a minute came to a small but pretty waterfall. Through the trees and you have a choice to keep left by taking some steps and then cross a delightful bridge, which is what we did, or bear right and follow the path up. With the river on our right we went higher and higher until we reached a viewing point. The waterfall has a drop of 70 feet and after heavy rain is very impressive. We crossed the bridge at the top and started to come down the path with railings and waterfall now on our right. This is the path most people take up and down and is slightly less muddy but can be a little busier. There are several view points on this side and picnic benches to really make the most of your visit.

The path is easier on this side so this is something to consider if you need to.

We finished our walk back in Ambleside at the famous Bridge House. A National Trust Property well worth having a look at.
