Symposium II "Performances of No-thingness" of the "Colonial Repercussions/Koloniales Erbe" event series at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin (26 and 27 May 2018)

Christina Sharpe will discuss four notions, partly loaded with a double meaning, which highlight the question of existence and non-existence as a Black person in the world from a historical as well as contemporary perspective: wake, ship, hold and weather. In relation to slavery, colonialism and migration, she will focus on the symbolism of the slave ship. Black. Still. Life. works through multiple meanings of still and still life in order to think about Blackness.
