All Eyes on Paris with Canadian Beach Volleyball Player Sophie Bukovec

My next guest is 28 year old Canadian Olympian, Sophie Bukovec from Toronto.

The 6’1” blocker/defender comes from an athletic family. Her sisters Stephanie and Natalie played soccer at University and her brother Matthew played basketball.

She started her elite Volleyball career playing indoor volleyball at McMaster University in Ontario Canada for one season where she lead her team in kills and aces. She then transferred to Long Beach State in the USA.

During that time, playing beach volleyball throughout the Canadian summers, Sophie was selected for the Youth World Champs for BEACH. When she won the U21 World Champs, she realised her future was on the sand.

Sophie then transferred to the University of Southern California to play beach volleyball exclusively for her final years of college. She was a crucial part of the team earning 3 National Championship Titles, 2 Pacific 12 Championships, and became a 2 X All American athlete.

She’s won 4 NORCECA titles, the Silver Medal at the 2022 World Champs and just recently won her first GOLD with her Olympic partner, Heather Bansley at home at the Halifax Futures event.

Overall, 2 Gold, 3 Silvers and 1 Bronze on the FIVB tour and she’s getting better every time she steps out on the sand.
