The P-50 Fiasco - 30 Minute Alert - Kenosha County, WI

What the day…

Started in Paddock Lake as a totally normal test. First was whatever the heck that noise was 30 seconds before the test, it sure got us near losing it laughing. 20 seconds of Alert, 3 cancel tones. We then heard a siren still going off in the distance. We thought it was Bristol at first, but quickly realized it was actually Trevor once we looked at our maps. After about 8 minutes we decided that there was clearly something wrong with the siren, since its timer should have shut it down after 3 minutes. We ended up getting back in our cars and booked it over to Trevor to see if we could get there before they shut it down. When we got there, I ran up to a good spot to set up (hence all the running), and we noticed the motor sounded like it was beginning to fail, since the pitch was a bit lower than usual and that we could hear it making strange noises. After almost half an hour, a volunteer firefighter got to the station, got a truck, and drove up to the siren to shut it down. I have no idea what happened to the controls to make it do this, but it sure was insane.
Edit: We believe the motor starter relay welded shut and wouldn't allow power to stop going to the siren, while the radio was probably functioning fine.
