Musically Yours, GV - EP08 | LyricScope - Parallels in Compositions ft. Akhilandeshwari

The idea of LyricScope is to try to comprehend and uncover the layers that the composer has embedded in a composition.

Very often, the intention and the impact behind the composition reveal themselves after many years of singing. It may be a single word or a phrase that can lead us to understand the meaning from a different perspective.

The great composers Sri Shyama Sastri and
Sri Muthuswamy Dikshithar had immense knowledge of the Upanishadic Truth.
They worshiped Goddess Akhilandeswari as the Divine Feminine form of the Supreme Consciousness. Their genius was fusing melodic music with divinely inspired lyrics to create an intensely spiritual experience.

Looking at these two compositions - Sankari Samkuru (Saveri) and Jambupathe (Yamuna Kalyani), I am wonder-struck by how strikingly similar phrases the two great Vaggeyakaras employed in describing an attribute of the Goddess.

Shyama Sastri evocatively portrays her as Kambu Kandhare - one who is conch-necked.

While Dikshithar in his epochal Jambupathe defines Her as "Kambu Kantya" - whose
throat is as shapely as a conch.

These great musician-composers and many eminent composers understood the Ultimate reality, the nature of the Self, and the Brahman (Pure Consciousness). They passed down to us compositions that convey their profound insights in simple and easily understood lyrics.

We enjoyed dwelling on these kritis. Let us know if you have similar observations. Waiting to hear from you.
