Dumfries & burgh by sands

Описание к видео Dumfries & burgh by sands

Wet visit to Dumfries and good thing about Oot&aboot is you can decide where to go on a whim : so ended up going to , Burgh by Sands which is a village and civil parish in the Cumberland the area of Cumbria, England, situated near the Solway Firth. The parish includes the village of Burgh by Sands . It is notable as the site of the first recorded North African (Mauri) military unit in Roman Britain, garrisoning the frontier fort of Aballava on Hadrian's Wall in the 3rd century AD.It is also where Edward I (Edward longshanks) of England died in 1307.of dysentery whilst coming to Scotland to face Robert the Bruce . His body was taken to St Michael chapel and lay in state till moved south to Westminster:
I never found where the Roman legionnaire was laid to rest , but paid homage to him at an old tree situated within the parish grounds:

Thanks for watching:
