Austin, TEXAS — Texas vs Jackson State


The No. 5/7 Texas women's basketball team beat Jackson State 97- 52 on Wednesday night at Moody Center.

The Longhorns went on a run of 18-2 over the last 5:19 in the first quarter and took a 47-22 lead at halftime. During the run Texas held Jackson State scoreless for 4:59 of game time.

Shaylee Gonzales led the Longhorns in scoring with 21 points and tied her career-high with six 3-point field goals. Khadija Faye recorded 14 points. DeYona Gaston scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Madison Booker scored 16 points and recorded nine assists with one turnover. Shay Holle scored ten points for the Longhorns. Amina Muhammad and Aaliyah Moore each scored seven points for Texas.

Texas made 24 points off of Jackson State's turnovers as they forced the Tigers into 17 turnovers. The Longhorns shot 32-of-56 (57.1 percent) from the field for the game and limited the Tigers to 16-of-66 (24.2 percent) from the field.

Next, the Longhorns will host No. 10/11 Baylor on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 1:00 p.m. CT at Moody Center. The game will be nationally televised on FOX.

• The Longhorns improved to 13-0, their best start since they started 16-0 in the 2015-16 season.
