On this hike in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness near Westcliffe, Colorado, we summited three 13ers--two ranked, including one centennial--and Humboldt Peak, a 14,068-foot peak.

We did this hike in late-June 2024 and had wonderful weather after a storm passed the night we packed in to South Colony Lakes, the camping area for this series of peaks. The trails were in excellent condition and despite what it looks like, it's not too difficult to keep the approach to Obstruction Peak at class 2 by sticking as near to ridge-direct as possible. Heading up Kitty Kat Carson and then towards Columbia Point, sticking to the center of the gully can approach class 4 in spots, but sticking to the climber's right, it will stay at class 2, but steep.

Humboldt Peak is a simple class 2. We made the mistake of going left of the ridge when we briefly lost the trail and got cliff'd out, but the trail goes to the climber's right of the ridge.
