Mega Man X, Ep. #06: Spark Mandrill

Описание к видео Mega Man X, Ep. #06: Spark Mandrill

Following the elimination of Boomer Kuwanger, and the subsequent recapture of the fortress tower, X is ordered to infiltrate the electromagnetic power plant to restore the energy supply by taking Spark Mandrill down. To X's surprise and advantage, however, the Death Rogumer had crashed into the power plant from his previous scuffle with Storm Eagle, granting him easy access. Regardless of the situation, Spark Mandrill awaits ready to punch his former Maverick Hunter ally out of his way.

Spark Mandrill's level is similar to Flame Mammoth's, as it has two access points: one being before defeating Storm Eagle, and the second being after. Certainly, the "after" is the better option because the first half of the stage won't be overrun by volleys of electric current passing through the ground, which make navigation somewhat of a nuisance. The second half of the stage could prove troublesome to traverse, but all you need is patience and the Storm Tornado to help you out, which should also be used against the sub-boss, Thunder Slimer. Overall it's an easy stage housing a Heart Tank and an Energy Sub-Tank that the Boomerang Cutter can get.

PS: The Snes9x has problems recording multiple transparencies.

BACKGROUND:

Modeled after a mandrill, Spark Mandrill was once a Maverick Hunter part of the 17th Elite Unit under Sigma's command built solely for combat. Possessing immense strength and the ability to control and manipulate electricity, Spark Mandrill was a highly efficient soldier surpassed only by his loyalty and obedience to his commanding officers. However, regardless of his efficiency on the field as a combat model, and due to having processing circuitry exclusively for combat, he failed to understand right and wrong causing him to be reactive.

Upon Sigma turning Maverick and ensuing revolt, Spark Mandrill blindly followed his leader without any rationale behind it. Obeying Sigma's first order, he took over the electric power plant, consuming its energy in the process, thusly depriving the city of it, and leaving his subordinates to clean up his mess afterward. Spark Mandrill literally stays within the power plant's main power supply gorging from it.

MISCELLANEOUS:

• Although Electromagnetic Power Plant / 電磁力プラント is the official and most common name of this stage, it is also known as Power Plant Stage / 発電所ステージ.

TRIVIA

• Spark Mandrill's joining Sigma upon his revolt was indeed because he was infected by the Sigma Virus.
• Interestingly, in the PSP remake of the game, Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X, Spark Mandrill was redesigned with a drill in his right hand, which made his name have a double meaning (if not a really bad pun).
• In the Mega Man X manga, Spark Mandrill is the second Maverick X faces right after Chill Penguin. His depiction is similar to the game; however, he was killed by Sigma after being defeated. (Due note that this is a non-canon scenario.)
• In the Mega Mission carddas released by Bandai, Dr. Doppler revived Spark Mandrill. In it, he's remodeled and renamed Spark Mandriller L, where the 'L' stands for "limited". His physical appearance has minimal changes other than a different body paint. (Due note that this is a non-canon scenario.)
• Spark Mandrill appeared in the Ruby-Spears Mega Man cartoon where he was portrayed with a Russian-like accent.
