firstly, apologies to everyone for not responding to comments/msgs this week...there have been some minor technical difficulties, but i think i have them ironed out and will be catching up tomorrow....

I don't know if this one is going to make sense to anyone outside of me, but I'm going to provide a patented overly long and complicated explanation to at least tell you my thinking behind it, (which is probably a sign of a vid thats not tight enough !)... so here goes...
you know Mulder and Scully have their respective degrees of 'issues' which is why I so enjoy putting them under a microscope...their relationship is kinda messed up, but in the greatest possible way- the light shines through the cracks so to speak and they are ultimately able to save each other because they really GET each other-strengths AND weaknesses. If you want to know where to start unpacking their issues, just look at their dads. I tried to do that with Mulder in the last vid, so Scully's turn. Her major struggles with authority, insecurity, control I think start with Bill Sr. Not cause he was a bad father or even a distant one like Mulder's, he clearly loved her , but he was a major authority figure as a naval Captain and probably had very high expectations for his children. Scully cause she revered him so much fell into this psychological trap of needing to please him and gain approval for her own worth to be validated- she explains it all so perfectly while talking to Ed in Never Again, one of my favorite eps because it did so much to develop her character. She can tell this all to Ed, an almost perfect stranger, but not to Mulder. She is so afraid of disappointing those she loves.Even more interesting, she shows that she clearly knows/understands that she does this, yet this awareness cannot save her from re-enacting the pattern, which is just the way it is with these things. She has surrounded herself with these powerful 'authority figures' which include the FBI and the Church and then tries to live up to expectation and be the dutiful little soldier (so so telling when she salutes her dad in BTS)...until she loses her own sense of will and rebels... against each and every one of them. In comes Mulder and you can see why things get all codependant-y in a hurry. But interestingly, it's this relationship that ultimately saves each of them because they can give each other what they need most...
I tried to show how I think some of these dynamics work for Scully, why she with-holds information, which in turn frustrates the hell out of Mulder who has had information witheld from him his whole life...how she tries to protect him and he needs to protect her- how ultimately this little dance of theirs becomes a sort of way of healing
I've been really into these 'voice-over collages' lately- using the characters own words in tandem with the images to explain the narrative, I know it gets a little draggy at times, but it's my current phase.
