Shinto: Outer Gods

Outer Gods in the Lands Between are deemed outer from the perspective of those inside of the Golden Order. The Golden Order was formed after Queen Marika the Eternal confined the Rune of Death, granting her demigod children immortality. This selfish act created a great imbalance in the Lands Between, an imbalance that tried to correct itself by cursing her empyrean children.

Outer Gods are essentially parts of the cycle of life: Formless Mother (birth), God of Rot (decay) & Twinbird (death). When death was removed, the cycle of life was thrown into chaos. This idea of nature trying to find a balance is similar to Shinto, a religion/tradition originating from Japan. Shintoism has no single creator or specific doctrine, instead it focuses on harmony, nature, and ancestral worship.
