Low Antique Elm Coffer

Описание к видео Low Antique Elm Coffer

This exquisitely crafted coffer is made from pine wood, produced in Hebei province in Northern China around two centuries ago. Traditionally, this type of storage was used to safely store documents and items of value, featuring a lower 'hidden' compartment accessed by removing the three drawers above. The drawers are decorated with simple carvings on the front, whilst the bottom apron is adorned with similar decorative elements. The stand out feature of the coffer, however, is the flower-motif open-carving on each side spandrel, which taper down towards the feet and each finish in an 'eternal knot' symbol. The carvings have been rendered in a green lacquer, worn over time but still in contrast to the darker finish on the top and front. Today the coffer is a perfect size for an unusual coffee table or TV stand.
