In this video, Dr. Kate Truitt guides us through a breathing exercise which can help us to reconnect to our breath, particularly after we’ve experienced a traumatic event. To begin, Dr. Kate invites us to rest our palm on our chest while we inhale and exhale to our own cadence. She suggests that we keep our palm on our chest throughout the exercise, or that we transition to palm havening.

Next, Dr. Kate walks us through what a 3-part breath entails. The first element is a soothing inhale, followed by three releases of that breath.

She walks us through this cycle multiple times and then explains that this simple exercise can oxygenate our brain and our body, which can help ground us into the present when we are feeling stressed or reactive.
