The USF Water Institute utilizes low-cost sonar technology (similar to fish-finders used by boaters) to map the depth, bottom contours and vegetation in lakes, rivers and near-shore coastal waters.

This video (Part 1) is a virtual field trip that will demonstrate the equipment and methods used to collect data for Lake Carroll in Hillsborough County.
