This is an introduction to the Biblical book of Zechariah. The prophecies of Zechariah are cited frequently in the Gospel accounts of Jesus Christ, and in the closing book of the Bible - the Book of Revelation. Along with the prophet Haggai, Zechariah urged the Jews returning from their exile in Babylon and Persia to waste no time reconstructing the Temple which had been destroyed in 586BC by Nebuchadnezzar’s invading forces. The reconstruction of the Temple was essential for the staging of the coming Messiah who was prophesied by Zechariah to be the “Branch” and the personification of the LORD and His glorious presence which were also prophesied by Haggai as well as Zechariah.
