Understanding Trauma - with Diane Young

Описание к видео Understanding Trauma - with Diane Young

Despite living in an era with increasingly better mental health literacy, it can still be difficult to know how to open up to someone when we are struggling. Articulating clearly what we’re struggling with can often be the first roadblock. We know something is wrong, but we’re just not quite sure what it is. Chances are, it’s the impact of trauma being felt.
Trauma is an emotional response to a distressing situation or event whereby our physical, emotional or spiritual safety was compromised, or was perceived to be at risk. Ranging from one-time, multiple, or long-lasting repetitive events, most of us will experience an event that could be considered traumatic.
The impact and lasting effect of trauma varies from person to person. It can be a negative psychological response following exposure to traumatic events, which can fade and disappear over time. When these symptoms persist and identify for months or begin to interfere with our ability to function normally in our daily lives, this could be Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or its more common variant, Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Hosted by Diane Young, South Pacific Private’s Addictions and Trauma Specialist. Diane will unpack the varying types of trauma, and how it can manifest in our daily lives and offer ways you can seek support for yourself or a loved one.
