Ep. 26 MY SQUIRREL MOSAIC, Mosaic Star ornament, filati distraction, new snowman, the magnolia.

Starting with a wooden squirrel base from a craft store, I use some gorgeous textured raku that accidentally broke to make the bushy tail. Then I jump into cutting up my filati and prepping two small substrates for some abstract filati mosaics. Once the Apoxie Sculpt is mixed, the clock starts ticking and I have about one hour to tweeze the filati into place, one by one before the adhesive begins to harden. The pre-cut pieces make it a swift process and I finish one of the mosaics. Then I finally grout the fall leaf suncatcher (with Brown Velvet sanded grout) that has been begging to be finished for quite a while. Then, back to my squirrel ornament, I decide on beads and Oceana glass to finish piecing the body.
Then I decide on how I want to make the round ornament with the gold rim to donate to the Atlanta Glass Art Guild's charity tree! I mix a black sanded grout a bit on the dry side and grout both ornaments together. The squirrel ornament needs a bead repair and I paint the back and edges with black acrylic paint for a clean look. Then ribbon is added and VOILA - two beautiful, hand-crafted mosaic ornaments!
I've been looking forward to making the snowman mosaic and get started using picassiette. I use Power Grab as the adhesive, and a striped holiday plate for the scarf and hat band, and some of the textured white plate for the body.

BONUS: My nephews visit to work on their two mosaics. The bear gets some tree trunks put in the background behind him so he can walk in the woods. The owl is almost finished!
