Dishonored Review | An Immersive Sim Classic

Dishonored is an oddball in the immersive sim genre - it actually sold well. Dishonored deserved it.

By all conventions of the immersive sim, Dishonored by Arkane Studios should have been beloved by a niche audience, yet struggled to move a sizeable number of copies.

Dishonored was an AAA-based game on a new IP late in a generation, which companies like EA or Ubisoft say don't sell well (an excuse). Yet, Dishonored broke through that Immersive Sim sales curse and went on to do very well. Too bad Dishonored 2, also a fantastic game, didn't sell quite so well, or was as good.

So the fact that Bethesda as a publisher took a gamble on Dishonored and letting Arkane do its thing is a miracle. Sometimes, despite what the larger publishers will try to tell you, all you need to make is a quality game made with passion and not trying to shove in trends. Dishonored is a perfect example of that.
