Humans are XX-XY type. Out of 23 pairs of chromosomes present, 22 pairs are exactly the same in both males and females; these are the autosomes. A pair of X-chromosomes are present in the female, whereas the presence of an X and Y chromosome are determinant of the male
characters. Females are homogametic producing only one type of gametes (egg), while the males are heterogametic.
Current analysis of Y chromosomes has revealed numerous genes and regions with potential genetic function. Present at both ends of the Y chromosome are the pseudoautosomal regions (PARs).95% of the Y chromosome is referred to as the Non - combining Region of the Y (NRY). The NRY is divided
equally into functional genes (euchromatic) and non functional genes (heterochromatic).
