Cleveland weather: Downpours, severe weather chances Thursday

Your 5 p.m. Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio weather forecast for April 10, 2024:

A lingering frontal boundary will help us keep periodic showers around northern Ohio this morning before becoming more scattered this afternoon. We're still feeling spring-like today with temps that will reach into the low to mid 60s this afternoon. It will be cooler near the lake with a breeze coming off our cooler lake water.

Attention then turns to our southwest as a deep area of low pressure gets going in the Mississippi Valley later today and rolls our way on Thursday. A severe weather outbreak is likely along the Gulf Coast today, and this slug of moisture and storm threat will shift into the Ohio Valley tomorrow.

This energy will rapidly move into Ohio during the day Thursday. We'll likely have a few waves of downpours during the day as temps begin to surge back towards 70. By afternoon, we'll be tracking a more organized line of storms in from the southwest, and it's that line that holds the severe threat. All modes of severe weather are possible with damaging winds, hail and a tornado chance. The biggest threat for everyone the next few days will be flooding. We're already saturated and with another estimated 1-3 inches of rain possible through Friday, we're going to have renewed flood concerns with area creeks, streams and rivers.
