HOCKEY GOALIE DRILLS - Puck Tracking and Movement PART 1 | Total Goaltending Development

Описание к видео HOCKEY GOALIE DRILLS - Puck Tracking and Movement PART 1 | Total Goaltending Development

In this video we take a behind the scenes look at a puck tracking and movement drill with Total Goaltending program developer John Ceci.

This drill is designed to encourage goaltenders to track pucks while moving on their feet and in the butterfly. The movement element makes it much more difficult to do this with consistency. The three themes highlighted by Coach John in this video are:

1) Hand Positioning - It is important to keep good hand positioning in order to decrease distance between you and the puck. The bigger the gap, the more net that is exposed.

2) Movement - Moving like it is a game situation and treating the drill as such. We want to do these drills at game speed to get the timing right. It is ok to do these drills at a slower pace when building the fundamental skill, but these goaltenders are elite and have already developed these base skills.

3) Crease Awareness - John mentions that the goaltenders need to recover back to home base. This is because positioning is key for recoveries. Being fast, but going to the incorrect position doesn't benefit is. Be quick to get back to our spots, and if we have time, we can take ice back and improve our position.
