100 Miserable, GRUMPY, & Windy Kilometres North 😫

Day 154. 97km (80413kms 7yrs)

After a brief crisis searching for a new iPhone cable I procrastinated over a second coffee before finally summoning the motivation to begin pedalling north. I’d hoped to find a boat north from Djerba to avoid this 250km stretch of not much between the island and sfax, but if any such boats existed the weren’t readily available now.

Instead it was head down into the wind up a pretty featureless stretch of main road. As time went on though the amount of vehicles careering towards me as they overtook was alarming, so I fought the aerodynamic instinct of putting my head down in favour of watching the road ahead.

Maybe the wind picked up, or maybe I just became more tired but by afternoon it was a really unpleasant grind. At lunch I stopped at a busy servo where the sound of chairs scraping on the floor made my blood boil. Later at a cafe, loud talking at a nearby table incensed me. I was in a rotten mood.

I counted the kilometres down, celebrating when I finally got to turn off this miserable road towards the sea to find a camp. Google satellite view had led me to think it was uninhabited, but instead a found a largish open mosque and courtyard beside a busy little bay of small fishing boats. I found the kindly mosque caretaker who gave me permission to set up camp, returning a little later with a key and the offer of a concrete room with a view to the sea. Delighted to have a safe and shaded place to camp, but still on autopilot, I pitched my tent indoors before sitting down exhausted to eat and compose my vlog
