Love is the essence of life. Our brains are wired to fall in love. The “feel good” hormones such as dopamine and oxytocin flood the brain at each stage of attraction, lust, love and attachment. In addition, psychology also plays a major role in love. Attraction is influenced by a numbers of factors, including self-esteem, mental and emotional health, life experiences, and family ties. This brings about a feeling that romantic relationships are not within our control and we feel helpless when disasters in love happen. In this Malayalam video, Dr Mary Matilda explains the psychology of love. She points out that contrary to the popular belief, love does not sweep you off your feet all of a sudden. The phrases like ‘falling in love’ or ‘love is blind’ are trivial and it is up to us to take prudent choices in love. She highlights five aspects of love affairs and ways to keep us away from toxic relations.
