Do you know what Charon’s Ferry and King Yama’s Spirit Station from Dragon Ball Z have in common? They’re essentially gateways to a realm that none of us would ever want to end up in; no matter which religion/entertainment medium you adhere to. Before Dante Alighieri wrote his literary masterpiece in the 14th century, most devout Christians could only imagine what Hell would look like. And then Inferno was published. Suddenly, imagination seemed like a much better tool for picturing damnation, because by God; Dante sure painted a vivid picture. His depiction of Hell as a 9-rung funnel of grotesquery and torment was immortalized by Sandro Botticelli in a fresco that earned the supreme distinction of being the focus of a Dan Brown novel. It is also probably what inspired George Perez and Marv Wolfman to create this demonic Conqueror of Worlds who is so powerful that he can wear Superman’s skeletal as his battle armor. The entity known as Trigon first reared its head in the DC Universe all the way back in 1980. He debuted in The New Teen Titans Vol. 1 issue #2, and has become one of the strongest cosmic threats to ever face off against the residents of Titans Tower and the Hall of Justice. Let’s explore this demonic conqueror’s intentions; this is Trigon’s origins – explained.
