Pol Aschman was a photographer-reporter. He started his career as a freelance photographer after the second world war.
His photographs and reports were published in the weekly illustrated magazine Revue and in the daily newspaper Luxemburger Wort.
He was the official photographer of the Grand Ducal Court and the official photographer of the “Foires Internationales” in Luxembourg.
His enormous work is dealing with street scenes, exquisite portraits and architectural photographs.
The exhibition is set up by themes such as the Schueberfouer, the Braderie in the City of Luxembourg, trades, night scenes, street scenes, youth, portraits, still life photos, architecture and the Grand Ducal family.
Pol Aschman created more than 220.000 images, which constitute one of the major and most valuable photographic archives of the Photothèque of the City of Luxembourg.
The photographer is well known for his discreet approach to his subjects, showing political and socio-cultural events that took place in the Grand Duchy during the period 1949 -1988.
The exhibition is organised by the Photothèque of the City of Luxembourg in collaboration with Christian Aschman, photographer and nephew of Pol Aschman.
