High Rigg & St John's in the Vale. Lake District. 21st April 2023

A walk up to the Wainwright summit of High Rigg and return route through the valley of St John's in the Vale.
High Rigg at 357m in height is one of the lower Wainwright Fells, but offers some great views.
The return route through St John's in the Vale is a very pleasant walk with more great views.
The walk starts from the parking area on the A591 south of Keswick opposite the turn off for the Thirlmere Dam road.
The walk first heads through woodland before reaching the open fell top of High Rigg.
A superb walk along the top of High Rigg gives great views over to Blencathra & Skiddaw as well as views over to the Helvellyn range and down to Thirlmere.
The summit of High Rigg (357m) offers more great views.
We descend steeply to the church at St John's in the Vale and follow the path through the valley back to the parking area beside the A591.
