What are the benefits of exercise? Improved circulation, improved memory, reduce pain from arthritis, improve sleep patterns, improve your mood, help control blood pressure, increased balance and strength which all lead to increased quality of life. Strength can improve at any age so it is imperative that we work on upper body strengthening exercises 2-3 times per week. Older adults are particularly vulnerable to sarcopenia or "muscle softening" as they become older. This video is for seniors who have trouble standing or have balance issues as most exercises are done sitting. This makes activities of daily living more difficult and could lead to a loss of independence. Strengthening can also help prevent falls and hip fractures.
