Late Spitfire 1500: (Often Lost) Quirky Interior Details

Small Triumph Sports Library & Archives, Episode 19 (July 2024)

Discussion of some quirky interior details that previous owners often will have lost/tossed before you got your hands on your own Spitfire.

The standard statements: As always, my videos are based on some combination of research and experience.
***Please help me to ensure the accuracy of information on my channel. Please reach out when you detect errors or possible errors. I make corrections as needed in video descriptions, in comments, and in videos.
***For videos such as this one, I’m ALWAYS seeking useful input, advice, etc.

Initial notes/corrections, pedantic nonsense, and self-mockery:

I didn’t expect it to take so long to post another video. Long hours of summer work in the workshop/garage have slowed me down considerably...

3:13 Regarding the “luxury pack,” see Thomason, page 95 (among other references/discussions in his book, including with the image of the map light on page 97). Regarding the 1975 date for the United States, see Cook, page 56.

4:32 To the best of my recollection. There were definitely electrical gremlins.

5:45 Coming from a red wire (via bullet connector, obviously).

7:53 Including the fact that the reproduction comes with a much longer black wire. On my car, at least, the short original wire keeps some tension on the bullet connector.

10:12 Please do let me know if I’ve screwed any of it up and I’ll correct it.

10:47 I think removing the trim/lower crash pad to get a clear shot at the fixings at the top of the radio tower/“H-brace” (often to get to the transmission) is the best example. Of course, most of the lower crash pads in existence, including my own, have suffered damage from people sticking screwdrivers in underneath them and going to town on the dash tower screws…
