Services on this route usually operate around once every hour with a roughly half hourly service at certain times of the day with most services calling at all stations. Limited services operate from Great Yarmouth to Norwich via Cantley as both stopping services serving Berney Arms and during the summer as Non stop services. Additional services operate between Norwich and Brundall as part of the Norwich to Lowestoft services but not all these services stop at Brundall or Brundall Gardens. Out of Norwich the line is shared with Sheringham via Cromer services for a short distance. At Norwich there are connections with the GEML to London Liverpool Street as well as other Greater Anglia services towards Ely and Cambridge and East Midlands Railway services to Nottingham and Liverpool Lime Street.

The rolling stock on this route is now entirely 3 and 4 carriage (plus centre power pack carriage) bi mode class 755 Stadler FLIRT trains which operate on all regional Greater Anglia services operating on routes with out electrification. Previously these services were formed of class 153 Sprinter and class 156 Express Sprinter units with longer services formed of class 170 Turbostar units.

This route is unelectrified with the exception of Norwich station meaning the class 755 operate under diesel power on this route. This route is double track between Norwich and Brundall and then single track to Great Yarmouth with a single passing loop provided at Acle station.
