China, officially the People's Republic of China, is a country in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of around 1.4 billion in 2019. Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, it is the world's third or fourth-largest country by area.
The Communist Party of China, commonly known as the Chinese Communist Party, is the founding and sole governing political party of the People's Republic of China. The CCP leads eight other legally permitted subordinate minor parties together as the United Front.
The earliest known written records of the history of China date from as early as 1250 BC, from the Shang dynasty, during the king Wu Ding's reign, who was mentioned as the twenty-first Shang king by the same.
