Emotional growth means embracing all of you. As Rumi says: Emotional wounds are where the light enters you.

I love that quote by the ancient 13th Century poet and theologian Rumi:

"The wound is the place where the light enters you".

This is SO true. I am proof of that.

I have to confess I am in awe of Rumi at the moment, having just discovered him (how have I not heard of him before??)

His words of wisdom are so close to the ones I learnt myself the hard way. The same philosophies that I live and swear by today and that changed my life.

When you are in emotional pain you feel like you are in the darkest of tunnels, I know. I remember days lying foetal in a ball, crying in pain after leaving my abusive ex who almost killed me.

There I was, facing life as a young, single mother wondering how I made such a mess of it.

Trust me on this: Emotional development only comes from embracing emotional pain. Out of emotional pain comes spiritual growth.​

Every emotion we feel is all part of our story, not just the happy ones.
Don't be afraid to embrace the darker side, learn the lessons you need to learn from the pain.

It's the only way to own your story and rewrite it the way you want to.

As Rumi also says:

"What hurts you, blesses you. Darkness is your candle".
