Phytogeographical regions of India or Phytogeographic Zones of India or Botanical province of India or Floristic region of India. Area of flora and fauna distribution having similar or shared characteristics throughout. Based on the geography, distinct climate, vegetation and wildlife patterns India has been split into 10 biogeographic zones (Rodgers and Panwar 1988).

1. Trans Himalayan Region
Area: This region includes high-altitude, cold and arid mountain regions of Jammu & Kashmir, North Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul, and Spiti areas and whole Ladakh.
% Cover: The trans himalayan region constitutes 5.6% of the country’s total land area.
Climate: It is characterized by extreme cold temperature, low precipitation, snowfall in winter, and harsh environmental conditions. Source of water is melting of snow. Wind blows in high speed.
Flora: Some of the wild plant species found in this region include Junipers, Rhododendron, Salix, Ephedra and various alpine herbs are found in this region.
